About
The Mall was part of Pierre L'Enfant's plan for the capital in the 1790s and was reshaped in the early twentieth century into the grand vista seen today. It stretches from the Capitol past the Smithsonian museums to the Washington Monument and on to the Lincoln Memorial. Memorials to the Second World War, Korea and Vietnam stand along the way, and it has hosted countless marches and celebrations.
Best time to go: Walk the full length from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial, stopping at the war memorials on the way.
