About
Opened on the Mall in 1976, the museum holds landmark aircraft and spacecraft including the Wright brothers' 1903 Flyer, Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis and the Apollo 11 command module. Galleries cover the history of flight, planetary exploration and the space race. A larger companion site near Dulles Airport displays many more aircraft.
Best time to go: Reserve free timed-entry passes in advance, and head first to the galleries on the history of flight.
