About
The present church was built in the twelfth century over the tomb of Saint Zeno, the city's fourth-century bishop. Its facade is crowned by a great rose window known as the Wheel of Fortune, and the bronze doors are covered in biblical scenes. Inside, the raised choir holds Andrea Mantegna's altarpiece, and the saint lies in the crypt beneath.
Best time to go: Walk out along the river in the morning and pause at the bronze doors before going inside.
