About
Built during the reign of Ali II ibn Hussein, between 1759 and 1782, the Tourbet el Bey is the royal mausoleum of the Husainid dynasty and the largest funerary monument in the city. It lies in the south-west of the medina and holds most of the dynasty's rulers, although the last two beys were buried elsewhere. The first tomb of the dynasty's founder, Al-Husayn I ibn Ali, stands just opposite.
Best time to go: Combine it with Dar Ben Abdallah nearby for an unhurried walk through the southern medina.
