About
Like other old Arab cities, Tunis divided its medina into markets by trade, with separate souks for meat, spices, fabrics and more. The Souk El Attarine takes its name from the attarine, or spice traders, who worked here. It lies next to the Zitouna Mosque in the heart of the medina, and its narrow covered lanes are a good place to see the old pattern of trade that still shapes the city.
Best time to go: Come in the late morning, when the stalls are fully open, and continue into the neighbouring souks.
