About
Built in the eighteenth century by a noble, the palace passed to a Tunisian army general before taking its name from its last owner, the silk merchant Mohamed Tahar Ben Abdallah. The state bought it in 1964, and since 1978 it has been a museum of daily life among the medina's nobility in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. One section covers family life and traditions, the other the souks, mosques and cafés of the city.
Best time to go: Visit it on the same walk as Tourbet el Bey, which lies close by in the south of the medina.
