About
Designed by Oscar Niemeyer and completed in the 1960s, the Copan houses thousands of residents in over a thousand flats behind its wave of horizontal sunshades. Its ground floor is a public gallery of shops and cafés, and the building has become one of the most recognisable shapes on the city skyline.
Best time to go: See its famous curve from the street below, then walk through the shops and cafés of the ground floor gallery.
