About

Founded in 1905, the Pinacoteca occupies a building by Ramos de Azevedo that was imaginatively remodelled in the 1990s by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, who roofed its courtyards and linked them with walkways. Its collection traces Brazilian art from the colonial period to the present, and the adjoining Luz Garden hosts sculpture.

Best time to go: Visit in the morning and continue into the Luz Garden next door for a quiet walk among the statues.
