About
Opened in 1911 and designed by Ramos de Azevedo with Italian collaborators, the theatre was inspired by the great European opera houses. In 1922 it hosted the Semana de Arte Moderna, a landmark event in Brazilian culture, and it remains home to the city's ballet, orchestra and opera seasons.
