About

Begun in 1913 and completed in stages over several decades, the Catedral da Sé is one of the largest neo-Gothic churches in the world, with a Renaissance-style dome over the crossing. Its crypt holds the tombs of bishops and of the indigenous leader Tibiriçá, and the square in front marks the zero point of the city.

Best time to go: Visit in daylight to see the stained glass and the crypt, and stay alert in the busy square outside.
