About
Commissioned by the British East India Company, the monument marks the graves of Patrick Vans Agnew and Lieutenant William Anderson. The two were sent in 1848 to take over the fortress from Dewan Mulraj, governor of Multan, but were attacked by the garrison and killed the next day near the Eidgah. Their deaths set off the Second Anglo-Sikh War, which ended with the British annexation of Punjab.
Best time to go: Pair it with the fort mound nearby as part of a half-day history walk.
