About

The fort stood on a hillock once separated from the city by the Ravi River, and its walls were built by the Mughal prince Murad Bakhsh in the seventeenth century. Contemporary accounts describe walls up to 70 feet high, some two kilometres around, with 46 bastions. The celebrated Multan Sun Temple once stood inside. British forces destroyed the fort in 1849, but the mound remains the historic heart of the city.

Best time to go: Walk the mound in the late afternoon, linking the shrines of Rukn-e-Alam and Bahauddin Zakariya.
