About

Completed in 1965, the National Mosque holds up to 15,000 worshippers and stands in 13 acres of gardens. Its main roof is a 16-pointed concrete star whose folded plates recall an open umbrella, while the cap of the 73-metre minaret suggests a folded one. The folded concrete let the architects span the large prayer hall. Reflecting pools and fountains run through the grounds.

Best time to go: Visit outside prayer times and dress modestly, with arms and legs covered.
