About

Construction began in the thirteenth century in Scheldt Gothic, a local style using blue-grey Tournai stone. Its central tower served as a lookout before the belfry was built. Close to the old grain market, the church was supported by the city's traders, and its lofty interior has been carefully restored.

Best time to go: Step inside on a bright day to see light pouring through the tall windows onto the grey stone.
