About
Begun in the early fourteenth century, the belfry kept the charters of the city's privileges and served as a watchtower. A gilded dragon has watched over Ghent from its spire for centuries. Inside are the old bells and the carillon, and the gallery looks down on St Bavo's, St Nicholas' and the adjoining Cloth Hall.
Best time to go: Take the lift most of the way up, then walk the gallery at the top for views of the three towers.
