The crumbling domes on this hillside were built in the fourteenth century as a burial place for the Marinid sultans, though little of their decoration survives. The reason to come is the panorama: the whole of Fes el-Bali spreads out below, a basin of rooftops, minarets and satellite dishes, framed by olive groves and the hills beyond.
Best time to go: Take a taxi up an hour before sunset and listen to the calls to prayer rise from the medina below.
