About
Although it looks ancient, the monumental gate was built in 1913 during the French protectorate, beside an older and simpler opening. Its horseshoe arches are faced with blue tiles on the outside, the colour of Fez, and green on the inside, the colour of Islam. Through the arches rise the minarets of the Bou Inania and Sidi Lezzaz mosques.
Best time to go: Come at dusk, when the cafés inside the gate fill and the tiles catch the last light.
