About
Founded in 1351, Ayutthaya grew into one of the largest and most cosmopolitan cities in Asia until a Burmese army sacked it in 1767. The island at the meeting of three rivers is scattered with the remains of its royal temples and palaces, and the historical park was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1991.
Best time to go: Explore by bicycle or tuk-tuk in the cooler early morning, carrying plenty of water.
