About

Built within the grounds of the royal palace, the temple served the kings for ceremonies and had no resident monks. Its three restored chedis, from the fifteenth century, held the ashes of kings, and the temple once housed a huge standing Buddha covered in gold that was melted down when the city fell in 1767.

Best time to go: Arrive early to photograph the three chedis in soft light before the tour buses.
