About
The museum opened in 1898 in a building by Gustav Gull that mixes Gothic and Renaissance forms, and a bold modern wing was added in 2016. Its collections trace Swiss life from prehistory to today, with panelled rooms, weapons, costumes and exhibitions on how the Confederation came to be.
Best time to go: Start with the permanent history of Switzerland, then look at the latest temporary exhibition.
