About
Legend credits Charlemagne with founding the church over the graves of the city's patron saints, and the present building dates largely from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Huldrych Zwingli launched the Reformation from its pulpit in 1519, and today visitors can see stained glass by Augusto Giacometti and windows of agate by Sigmar Polke.
Best time to go: Climb one of the twin towers on a clear morning for a view over the lake and the old town.
