About
Built over about 250 years from the thirteenth century, the Minster stands on the site of the Roman fortress headquarters. The Great East Window is the largest expanse of medieval stained glass in the country, and the undercroft reveals Roman and Norman remains beneath the church.
Best time to go: Climb the central tower on a clear morning, then attend Evensong to hear the choir.
