About
Built in the 1350s, the timber-framed hall was the meeting place of York's powerful merchants, who traded wool, cloth and other goods overseas. The Great Hall has a magnificent oak roof, and the undercroft once served as a hospital for the poor, with a small chapel alongside.
Best time to go: Look up at the great timber roof of the main hall, then visit the undercroft below.
