About
Housed in the eighteenth-century debtors' prison and female prison beside Clifford's Tower, the museum explores everyday life over several centuries. Kirkgate recreates a Victorian shopping street, and the old cells tell the stories of prisoners, including the highwayman Dick Turpin.
Best time to go: Start with Kirkgate, the recreated Victorian street, before the crowds arrive.
