About

Completed in 1955 as a gift from the Soviet people, the palace was long the tallest building in Poland and remains a controversial symbol. It houses theatres, cinemas, museums and offices, and the viewing terrace on the thirtieth floor looks over the city's glass towers.

Best time to go: Ride up to the thirtieth-floor terrace around sunset for a view of the modern skyline.
