About
German forces razed the old town after the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, and it was rebuilt in the following decades using old paintings, photographs and drawings. The result earned UNESCO recognition in 1980, and its Market Square, city walls and narrow lanes are once again the heart of the capital.
Best time to go: Explore in the early morning, then return at dusk to see the Market Square lit up.
