About
The opera house opened in 1869 with Mozart's Don Giovanni, and it was rebuilt after being badly damaged by bombing in 1945. Its company performs a wide repertoire of opera and ballet across a long season, and the grand staircase and marble foyers can be seen on guided tours.
Best time to go: Take a daytime guided tour, or queue for inexpensive standing places at an evening performance.
