About
Gustav Vasa began the castle in the 1540s, and it witnessed great moments of Swedish history, including the abdication of Queen Christina in 1654. Much of it burned in 1702, and today it houses an art museum and the governor's residence, with the botanical garden laid out below.
Best time to go: Walk up the hill at sunset for the view of the cathedral spires across the rooftops.
