About
The fortress was built after the great fire of 1681, when the city was redesigned, to protect Trondheim from the east. It successfully deterred a Swedish siege in 1718. During the Second World War it was used by the occupying forces, and a memorial recalls members of the resistance executed here. The lawns and walls make an excellent vantage point.
Best time to go: Walk up from Bakklandet late in the day for a sunset view across the rooftops to the fjord.
