About
The northern gate was the main ceremonial entrance to Diocletian's residence, framed by niches that once held statues and topped by a walkway. Just outside stands Ivan Meštrović's towering bronze of Gregory of Nin, the tenth-century bishop who championed the Croatian language in church services, whose toe has been polished bright by visitors.
Best time to go: Rub the big toe of Meštrović's Gregory of Nin outside the gate for luck, then walk into the palace.
