About

Set in the kasbah of the medina, first built in the eleventh century, the museum opened in 1951 and reopened in 2012 after renovation. Its mosaic collection is second only to the Bardo's, with pieces showing Medusa, Oceanus and Neptune on his sea chariot. There are also Punic votive stelae from as early as the seventh century BC, Roman marble statues including a bust of Hadrian, and finds from ancient Hadrumetum.

Best time to go: Allow an hour and a half, and go before the medina lanes get hot.
