About
The Tilakari Madrasa was built in the 17th century on the Registan, in the historic centre of Samarkand. Its name comes from Persian and means 'the Gilded Madrasa', a reference to its decoration. It was one of two madrasas added to the square under the Janid dynasty, facing the older Ulugh Beg Madrasa. The building is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the city's historic core.
Best time to go: Visit as part of the Registan, and step inside for the gilded interior, the reason for its name.
