About
Gur-e-Amir is the mausoleum of Timur, the Turco-Mongol conqueror also known as Tamerlane. It holds an important place in the architecture of the region as a precursor of the later Mughal tombs. Its influence runs through Humayun's Tomb in Delhi to the Taj Mahal in Agra, both built by Timur's descendants. The building has been heavily restored over the centuries, and it remains one of the city's great landmarks.
Best time to go: Visit in the late afternoon, then return after dark to see the mausoleum lit up.
