About
The Hazrat Khizr Mosque stands on a hill opposite the Shah-i-Zinda complex. It is associated with Khizr, the legendary figure of Islamic tradition. The present building dates from the mid-19th century, and an inscription on the mihrab gives the year 1855. It was raised on the site of a much older mosque. In 2018 the mausoleum of Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan's first president, opened within its grounds.
Best time to go: Come in the late afternoon for the view over the old town, and dress modestly.
