About
The museum occupies a complex of sugar-era buildings on the water's edge that were restored in the 1960s by the architect Lina Bo Bardi, who added a celebrated wooden staircase. It shows Brazilian modern and contemporary art, with a sculpture garden by the sea, and hosts popular jazz sessions.
Best time to go: Come in the late afternoon to see the collection and watch the sunset over the bay from the waterfront.
