About

The first lift here opened in 1873, making it one of the earliest urban elevators in the world, and it was rebuilt in its present Art Deco form in the 1930s. In seconds it carries passengers some seventy metres between the upper city and the port district, and the terrace at the top overlooks the Bay of All Saints.

Best time to go: Ride it down in the late afternoon for views over the bay, then head for the Mercado Modelo below.
