About
Built in the thirteenth century and enlarged in the fourteenth, this small church once held a thorn said to come from Christ's crown, which gave it its name. Its exterior is a lacework of Gothic pinnacles and sculpture. In the nineteenth century the whole building was taken apart and rebuilt on higher ground to protect it from the river's floods.
Best time to go: See it from the opposite bank of the Arno in the late afternoon, when the marble catches the light.
