About
Housed in a former Benedictine convent on the riverfront, the museum gathers painting and sculpture taken from Pisa's churches. Its rooms are strong in painted crosses and gold-ground altarpieces of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Highlights include a polyptych by Simone Martini and a Saint Paul by Masaccio, and it is rarely crowded.
Best time to go: Visit in the morning for quiet galleries, and look for the painted crosses and Simone Martini's polyptych.
