About
Begun in the eleventh century and funded by the spoils of a naval victory, the cathedral set the model for the Pisan Romanesque style, with its tiers of arcades and striped marble. Inside, Giovanni Pisano's richly carved pulpit is one of the masterpieces of Italian Gothic sculpture. A bronze lamp in the nave is linked by legend to Galileo's study of the pendulum.
Best time to go: Collect a free timed entry ticket at the ticket office, then take your time with the pulpit.
