About
Begun in the twelfth century and completed over the following two, the baptistery combines a Romanesque lower half with Gothic decoration above. Nicola Pisano carved its pulpit, a landmark in the revival of classical sculpture. The dome gives the interior a remarkable echo, and a gallery upstairs looks across to the cathedral facade.
Best time to go: Time your visit for one of the regular moments when a custodian sings to show off the echo.
