About
The market moved to this spot in 1807 when the old one on Marienplatz ran out of space, and it has grown into a gourmet's playground. Permanent stalls sell Bavarian sausages, cheeses, fruit, flowers and spices, and a tall painted maypole rises in the middle. Fountains honour much-loved Munich comedians and folk singers.
Best time to go: Come hungry at lunchtime and graze from the stalls, then rest in the beer garden under the chestnuts.
