About
The Hofbräu brewery was founded in 1589 by Duke Wilhelm V to supply the court, and the present beer hall on the Platzl dates from the 1890s. Beneath its painted vaults, locals with reserved tables sit alongside visitors, a band plays Bavarian tunes and litre mugs of beer arrive with hearty regional dishes.
Best time to go: Go at lunchtime for a quieter table, and order a plate of roast pork and dumplings with your beer.
