About
Marienplatz has been the heart of Munich since the twelfth century and takes its name from the Marian Column erected in 1638. Its north side is filled by the New Town Hall, a lavish neo-Gothic building whose tower holds the famous Glockenspiel, with mechanical figures that re-enact a royal wedding and the coopers' dance.
Best time to go: Arrive a few minutes before the Glockenspiel performs and find a spot facing the town hall tower.
