About
Milan was once laced with canals, and marble for the Duomo was carried along them into the city. The neoclassical Porta Ticinese gate stands beside the Darsena, the old harbour basin where the surviving Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese begin, and their banks are lined with old laundries, artisans' workshops and some of the city's liveliest bars.
Best time to go: Come at sunset for aperitivo along the canal, or on the last Sunday of the month for the antiques market.
