About

La Scala opened in 1778 with a design by Giuseppe Piermarini, and its restrained facade hides a sumptuous horseshoe auditorium. Operas by Verdi, Puccini and Bellini had premieres on its stage, and the theatre museum displays costumes, instruments and portraits of great singers.

Best time to go: Visit the museum by day for a view into the auditorium, or book early for an evening performance.
