About
Begun in 1386 and only completed in the twentieth century, the Duomo is one of the largest churches in the world. Its facade and roofs bristle with pinnacles and thousands of statues in pink-veined Candoglia marble, and visitors can walk among the spires on the rooftop terraces beneath the gilded Madonnina.
Best time to go: Go up to the rooftop terraces early in the day, then see the vast interior when the light is strongest.
