About
Completed in 1934 to honour those who served in the First World War, the shrine was inspired by ancient monuments such as the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. In the inner sanctuary, a shaft of sunlight falls on the Stone of Remembrance at eleven o'clock on the eleventh of November, and galleries below tell the stories of Australians at war.
Best time to go: Climb to the upper balconies for the long view up St Kilda Road to the city skyline.
