About
Founded in 1861, the gallery's international collection is housed in a bluestone building on St Kilda Road designed by Roy Grounds and opened in 1968. Its collections run from antiquities and European old masters to Asian art, fashion and contemporary design, and the Great Hall is roofed by Leonard French's vast coloured-glass ceiling.
Best time to go: Enter through the water wall and lie on the floor of the Great Hall to take in the stained-glass ceiling.
