About
Opened in the early 1890s and modelled on the grand arcades of Milan and Paris, the Block Arcade has a mosaic floor, a glass canopy roof and carved stone detailing. Its name recalls the fashionable Victorian pastime of 'doing the Block', promenading along Collins Street, and its old tea rooms and boutiques still keep that genteel air.
Best time to go: Wander through on a weekday morning, then carry on into the laneways and cafés nearby.
