About
Built from local limestone and opened in 1857, the cathedral was completed in the years after the Great Famine. Its tall central tower is a landmark across Kilkenny, and the interior includes a white marble statue of the Madonna by the sculptor Giovanni Maria Benzoni.
Best time to go: Look for its tall tower from anywhere in town, then step inside for a quiet moment.
